Used Telescopes

Telescopes are fascinating pieces of machinery that can bring the stars in the sky right into our own living rooms. There are a number different types and styles of telescopes available, which is a sure testament to the popularity of amateur stargazing. Learning a little bit about telescopes in general can make the world of telescopes seem a lot more intelligible.

Most of the popular “home” telescopes are the optical style of telescope. This simply refers to the fact that these telescopes gather electromagnetic radiation through a series of lenses. There are also telescopes that gather different types of radiation, including but not limited to gamma and x-ray telescopes.

Optical telescopes can again be broken down into two basic categories. Generally speaking there are reflecting and refracting styles of optical telescopes. Refracting telescopes use a simple method of “refracting” or bending of light to make the light appear larger than it would with the naked eye. On the other hand, the reflecting style of optical telescope was first successfully crafted by Sir Isaac Newton, and it uses a more sophisticated series of mirrors and lenses to reflect rather than refract the incoming light. Of the two, the reflecting style of telescope is generally considered to be superior for night star viewing.

Oftentimes, as one’s interest in the night sky increases, one gains a need for better equipment. One might need to switch from a more basic refracting style telescope to a more high-end reflecting style. Selling one’s used telescope is not difficult with our site. Though they specialize in camera equipment, our site also purchases several models of used telescopes. They have a simple-to-use system for determining the relative condition of your equipment and they always offer a fair market price.
